Alliant rêverie et pensée mystique\, son œuvre picturale invite à s’immerger dans une quête intérieure\, celle de l’immanence et de l’éternité. Qu’il s’agisse de paysages ou d’architectures\, on devine dans ses aquarelles\, dessins ou gravures\, des signes et symboles cachés susceptibles de nous révéler des vérités supérieures. Si son trait de dessin se fait synthèse\, parfois incisive et cruelle\, la couleur joue\, elle\, la gamme de « la variation éternelle\, à la fois mélodie et contre point\, où l’on passe ainsi d’un écho atténué à la sonorité cuivrée d’une œuvre magistrale. »[1] \nEn parallèle à sa pratique plastique\, Francis Saillart écrit des textes autour d’œuvres ou monuments emblématiques de l’histoire de l’art.  Il est également l’auteur de traductions de l’œuvre Shakespeare\, notamment La Tempête (mise en scène de Daniel Pitolet) ou l’intégralité de ses Sonnets.
