Peintre\, collagiste\, photographe\, sculptrice et poétesse\, Cozette de Charmoy s’inscrit dans le sillage des avant-gardes des années 1960\, explorant les liens entre texte et image avec ironie et acuité. Inspirée par la poésie visuelle et sonore\, l’artiste produit des compositions énigmatiques où la puissance du langage visuel prend régulièrement le pas sur le récit. \nSes livres-collages\, comme The True Life of Sweeney Todd (1973)\, mêlent surréalisme et critique sociale en convoquant l’inconscient collectif à travers des faits divers ou des mythes modernes. The Colossal Lie (1974)\, son œuvre majeure composée de 31 planches dépeint\, elle\, un monde absurde où la vérité semble toujours se dérober sous des apparences trompeusement rationnelles ou scientifiques. Femme rare dans des réseaux d’hommes\, elle collabore à la revue O d’Henri Chopin et cofonde la maison d’édition Ottezec. \nTraversant différentes époques\, les œuvres de l’exposition ouvrent sur des facettes multiples de son travail : peintures\, collages\, lithographies\, poèmes… Autant de pratiques et de médiums qui nourrissent une œuvre engagée et militante où l’artiste déploie les préoccupations écologiques\, féministes et anti-militaristes qu’elle n’a eu de cesse de traiter. \nSon œuvre dense et profonde interroge ainsi les formes d’autorité du savoir\, les mécanismes de manipulation du réel et célèbre l’imaginaire tout en s’instituant comme contre-pouvoir.
