DESCRIPTION:Artistes :\nPatrick Bernier et Olive Martin\nDepuis 1999\, Patrick Bernier et Olive Martin travaillent ensemble et expérimentent différentes formes – film\, vidéo\, performance\, photographie\, production sonore – au gré de projets souvent réalisés en collaboration avec des professionnels d’autres champs – avocats\, conteurs\, vendeurs aux enchères. \nIls créent ainsi des « monstres »\, œuvres où se perçoivent au travers d’imprécisions\, d’hésitations\, de surprises\, les efforts consentis par les uns et les autres pour bousculer leurs propres langue et forme. Ce questionnement de la relation de l’individu à un territoire qui lui serait propre\, terre\, pays ou activité professionnelle\, est également au centre de leurs deux films\, Manmuswak (2005) et La Nouvelle Kahnawake (2010). En 2012\, ils créent L’Échiqueté\, variante du jeu d’échecs\, où peuvent se lire la situation paradoxale du métis dans l’histoire coloniale comme celle\, ambiguë de l’artiste politiquement engagé dans le champ de l’art contemporain. \nDans leur installation vidéo\, Patrick Bernier et Olive Martin proposent au visiteur deux expériences d’immersion. La première est une plongée méditative au sein du Mémorial de l’abolition de l’esclavage à Nantes\, lieu de mémoire cher aux artistes\, conçu comme la cale d’un navire immobilisé à fleur de Loire. Dans la seconde\, le spectateur assiste à la dérive de croisiéristes européens servis par l’équipage international d’un paquebot en Méditerranée. La vie à bord défile au rythme d’une musique grave\, annonciatrice d’on ne sait quelle douce et inéluctable destination.
